Obama’s First Supreme Court pick: “Not that smart, kind of a bully on the bench”

by Kurt Schulzke on May 26, 2009

The left is decidedly unenthused with Barack Obama’s choice of Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court.  All shed a tear.  This from Jeff Rosen:

The most consistent concern was that Sotomayor, although an able lawyer, was “not that smart and kind of a bully on the bench,” as one former Second Circuit clerk for another judge put it. “She has an inflated opinion of herself, and is domineering during oral arguments, but her questions aren’t penetrating and don’t get to the heart of the issue.” (During one argument, an elderly judicial colleague . . . said, “Will you please stop talking and let them talk?”) . . .

Her opinions, although competent, are viewed by former prosecutors as not especially clean or tight, and sometimes miss the forest for the trees. It’s customary, for example, for Second Circuit judges to circulate their draft opinions to invite a robust exchange of views. Sotomayor, several former clerks complained, rankled her colleagues by sending long memos that didn’t distinguish between substantive and trivial points, with petty editing suggestions–fixing typos and the like–rather than focusing on the core analytical issues.

Inflated opinion of herself, domineering, misses the heart of the issue, can’t distinguish between substantive and trivial points.  Who does this sound like?  Maybe the same occupant of the Oval Office who doesn’t get the connection between hellaciously high deficits and rampant inflation?  What did the left think they would get from a smart-aleck, full-of-himself punk like Barack Obama?

So, another Judge Walther?

She also appears to be an anti-white, brown racist. See her Anti-white opinion on New Haven firefighters’ case and statements she’s made.

Amazing!! Men judges are called brillant , Hero’s with an attitude like Sotomayor, but because she is Female, she is a “bully”? LOL
I believe it will be extremely beneficial to have another woman on the Supreme Court. So the Lady says openly what she thinks about law, Good for her! Im sure it chaps men’s butts to have a woman in any Judical forum.
Well, get used to it boys!!

Because she’s female? It’s because she’s NOT brilliant. There are female judges who command plenty of respect and male judges who don’t.

Of course, just any woman will do. Right, Kelsey? Would you prefer a smart, tactful woman who can influence decisions or one who is known for her rudeness, loose mouth and stupidity? Which of the two do you think would accomplish more for women and latinos? Why do you think Barack Obama picked the latter as the first latina on the Court instead of the former? Think about it.
