Once from Chicago, always from Chicago. The most ethical presidential administration in the history of the United States is busy building a cabinet full of tax cheats. On the heels of the absurdly quick confirmation of one tax cheat, Tim Geithner, as Treasury Secretary — now that’s a great place for a tax evader, dontcha know! — President Obama is busily trying to convince an all-too-easily convinced Senate to confirm a second tax cheat, Tom Daschle.
Poor Mr. Daschle, despite having served as Senate Majority Leader, just could not seem to figure out that getting a “free” car and driver from a campaign donor was taxable income. Couldn’t figure it out, that is, until an epiphany on the way to his Senate confirmation as Secretary of Health and Human Services. At that point, he exclaimed, “Oh, I just now realized that I owe the government $100,000 in back taxes.” Right.
Rather than saying, “I hope I don’t go to jail for this,” as most Americans would, these guys — Geithner and Daschle — can only mutter, “Well, this little mess really shouldn’t hold up my confirmation because, by golly, the nation desperately needs me.” We don’t. And Daschle should be sent home forthwith. But he won’t, not with Mr. Barack “Ethics” Obama in the White House.
The audacity of Barack Obama in nominating such trash is matched only by his nominees’ mendacity. These are not ordinary Americans who can be forgiven for not understanding the tax code. They are sophisticated men who have served in high places, men who have plenty of money to hire the best tax advisors and attorneys.
Neither Geithner nor Daschle has any excuse for such piggish, corrupt behavior. They are thieves and should be treated as such. Instead, we reward them with more power, prestige and access to the same treasure that they already practiced taking for themselves.
It’s going to be an entertaining four years with such men in charge of spending trillions of tax dollars.

Chicago is full of them. Or full of it.
What did we expect from Obama in terms of nominations when one crook after another turned up in his campaign or in his history? We are getting what we bought. Or what the mindless bought.
“an all-too-easily convinced Senate “, that’s the root cause. Some senaters who passed Geither said that selecting another nominee will cost 2 to 3 weeks, but the nation can’t not wait that long. I think they should say 2 to 3 weeks to find a right person is worthy for the nation in the next 4 or 8 years. Urgency is fabricated by some political elites to give pressure to the the senators.
It doesn’t seem to do any good to call my senator (hatch) that was his response about gaithner – it would take 2 or 3 weeks. Well, I’m for waiting. One wonders how many senators have a similar problem and so are just happy to get on with it and out of the way.
I wish all the repubs in your blogesphere would think about a good repub to really run against hatch. He is too close to teddy kennedy.
Maybe looking at Chavez for a couple of years and how he handles the congress and if he gives in to the power brokers – he might be a keeper.
This is from MichelleMalkins blog on little tommy (by the way, do you remember that he used to sit on phone books when he was photographed with other taller senators?)
Before we get to tax cheat Tom Daschle, let’s recall the names of the Bend Over Republicans who pooh-poohed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s tax troubles and accused critics of “thinking in small political terms.”
On the Senate Finance Committee, B.O. Republicans Mike Crapo, Orrin Hatch, John Cornyn, Olympia Snowe and John Ensign all determined that Geithner’s “tax goofs” worth $43,000 did not disqualify him from the job of overseeing everyone else’s taxes.
On Jan. 26, when the full Senate voted, 10 B.O. Republicans cast their votes in the affirmative for the serial tax evader and bailout failout architect. Those 10 B.O. Republicans were:
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
Ensign (R-NV)
Graham (R-SC)
Gregg (R-NH)
Hatch (R-UT)
Shelby (R-AL)
Snowe (R-ME)
Voinovich (R-OH)
What, pray tell, will these apologists for tax evasion do with Tom Daschle? Like Geithner, Daschle pleads ignorance – and only paid back taxes and interest during the vetting process for his Health and Human Services Secretary nomination:
I could care less if he evaded the income tax, which shouldn’t even exist in my opinion. What I care about is the fact that the alleged tax liability arises from a car and driver provided to him by a private equity firm. This raises serious conflict of interest issues and constitutes corruption and influence peddling to those who are benefiting from the bailouts which will destroy our standard of living and will result in looting of our wealth via hyperinflation.
Just to get his name right …… Chaffetz! So far a good guy.
Congress is full of crooks, so picking one that isn’t is hit or miss.
