NYT attempts hatchet job on McCain

So let me see if I have this straight. Back in January, the New York Times proudly endorsed John McCain while it was in the midst of preparing a supposedly devastating expose on his ethics published yesterday? Just who has ethical problems — McCain or the New York Times? I’ve questioned McCain’s ethics myself, but not in relation to the unfounded gossip ginned up by the Times for this latest story.

The femme fatale allegation — that McCain supposedly had a romantic relationship with a lobbyist and in exchange for the romance granted her political favors — is weak, unfounded speculation. I believe McCain’s denials of this element of the story. The other elements, dealing with very old allegations about his connection with the Keating Five, are so old they’re moldy. Let’s move on. Shame on the Times.

We knew it was coming. As soon as the MSM had McCain as their anointed Republican candidate, he would become their
sacrificial lamb. They were never his friends; he just thought they were. While they snickered behind hands held to their faces.

He is not our choice, but with this sniveling gossip about him from the NYT, I suddenly feel more comfortable voting for McCain. I imagine I am not alone. Sympathy votes are counted, are they not?
