More Islamic depravity: Want dog? Buy fatwa.

by Kurt Schulzke on February 21, 2008

Islamic intolerance and extremism are now a daily staple ’round the world. On the heels of Saudi Arabia’s absurd prosecution of an American businesswoman for drinking coffee with a male co-worker in Riyadh, here’s a nugget from AdnkronosInternational reporting on Iran’s brutalization of a 70-year-old man with 30 lashes and 4 months behind bars for walking his dog:

Tehran, 19 Feb.(AKI) - A 70-year-old man has been sentenced by an Iranian judge to four months in jail and 30 lashes for going out on the street with his dog.

The incident took place in Shahr Rey, a suburb of Tehran when the owner of the dog was caught by a police who quickly handcuffed the man. He was later charged by an Islamic judge for “disturbing the public order”. . .

President Ahmadinejad recently provoked debate in Iran about dog ownership when he took possession of four guard dogs, bought in Germany at a cost of 110,000 euros each.

The dogs are at the centre of a theological controversy because Islam considers dogs to be impure. . .

“The purchase of these dogs [presumably Ahmadinejad's] was authorised by a fatwa issued by several ayatollahs who approved the use of these animals if the only goal was to guarantee personal security and not infringe on any religious rule,” said Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars.

If you want a cat, presumably you’ll need a catwa.  When rational people see Islamic authorities use Islamic law so irrationally, they can’t help but see Islam itself as the problem. If the Muslim community wants to be taken seriously, it must put a lid on such outrageous official misbehavior. Full story here.

Stoning women for having been SEEN with a man not of their immediate family, therefore presumably adulteresses, is another, still current, form of Islamic abysmal brutality. It is not part of the past.
And we are about to elect as our president a man with strong sympathies with Islam. Go figure. … Go vote. Like it or not, the identity of Obama’s father and stepfather and his two years in a madrassa school are relevant. They are not his past, either; they are part of his persona. His pastor and spiritual advisor for the last 21 years is a huge fan of Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam, and with him visited North African terrorist Moammar Khaffafi. No meaning in that visit? Don’t bet on it. No spillover onto Obama? Given his youth experience, this not an aberration in his connections and sympathies; it is a continuity of them.
