Jim Webb Begs President: Don’t Embarass Us In Copenhagen

by Kurt Schulzke on December 7, 2009

Senator Jim Webb (D-Va) is scared stiff Barack Obama might just go Euro-native in Copenhagen, signing documents he has no authority to sign in order to bind the people of the United States to a radical CO2-reduction agenda.  In fact, Webb is so scared — any wonder why? — that he actually wrote a letter to the President within the past week reminding him of that uniquely American constitutional construct, the separation of powers. The text of the letter and commentary appear below.

Dear Mr. President:

I would like to express my concern regarding reports that the Administration may believe it has the unilateral power to commit the government of the United States to certain standards that may be agreed upon at the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The phrase “politically binding” has been used.

Although details have not been made available, recent statements by Special Envoy on Climate Change Todd Stern indicate that negotiators may be intending to commit the United States to a nationwide emission reduction program. As you well know from your time in the Senate, only specific legislation agreed upon in the Congress, or a treaty ratified by the Senate, could actually create such a commitment on behalf of our country.

I would very much appreciate having this matter clarified in advance of the Copenhagen meetings.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb
United States Senator

“As you well know from your time in the Senate”??! This is just laughable. Does Webb really think Barack Obama learned anything about the Constitution during his short stint in the Senate that he has the slightest intention of remembering? Mr. Obama has made it abundantly clear throughout his short life that the Constitution is nothing but an obstacle to his Marxist agenda. If Mr. Webb wants Mr. Obama to follow the Constitution, he’ll have to do better than say “pretty please.”

Funny that Webb has expressed no reservations in the past — at least not that I have heard — to any number of unconstitutional usurpations perpetrated or contemplated by the President whom Webb enthusiastically supported in November 2008. The federal takeover of GM and the attempted federal takeover of the entire American health care system come to mind.

What makes Copenhagen or the Senate’s power to ratify treaties so special? And what makes Webb so special that a gangsta thug from Chicago should give a rat’s a– that a somewhat dull-witted, politically frightened Senator from Virginia “would very much appreciate” an advance clarification of the gangsta’s Copenhagen intentions? Senator Webb will get exactly what he deserves for putting as individual of Obama’s ilk in a position to do so much damage to the United States.

It would be interesting to hear from some of his former students exactly what he taught them about the Constitution. So far not one has come forward – I wonder why? Maybe they know all about Chicago politics and would rather keep their jobs.
