FLDS hysteria spreads to Washington: Harry Reid breathing heavy

Wow! The more things change, the more they stay the same. Now, the intellectual power house of the Senate, Searchlight, NV native Harry Reid, is looking for some of that FLDS saliva himself. The people of Nevada should be soooo proud to have local boy Harry dedicate U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee time to a biased discussion (Reid is capable of nothing else) of polygamy:

The Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington is poised to hold a hearing in next week on alleged crimes involving the Fundamentalist LDS Church.

Politicians, activists and ex-FLDS members are being contacted by staffers for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and asked if they would be willing to testify before the committee on July 24.

Am I the only one who finds it extraordinary that the Senate Judiciary Committee is investigating polygamy? What about investigating Texas judges who violate their own Judicial Code of Conduct and due process in a headlong rush to drive a religious minority out of Texas?  What about slugging it out over some of the scores of judicial nominations now languishing in the Senate.  Harry Reid fiddles while Rome burns.

I’m still trying to figure out what’s in it for Harry Reid?

What outcome could he hope to see that would benefit him, his office, those he represents… ?

What motivates Harry Reid in this mess?

Senator Reid was converted to Mormonism. Converts like him are frequently more fanatical than those who are born to the religion.

Harry Reid’s idiocy has nothing to do with his being a Mormon, born or converted. It certainly has nothing to do with his being fanatical — about Mormonism, at least. Other things are open to question, however.
He is a MINO — Mormon in Name Only. (That is not changed by having a son go on a mission, etc; that only changes his son.)
Most Nevada Mormons who know him well think he is a dim bulb, an opportunist, and a hypocrite. He was re-elected by a very narrow margin and is not likely to have another term.
