A leadership role for Barack Obama and a place for CPS?
This CNN story suggests that maybe there is a place for Barack Obama on the world’s political stage, a place for him to “seize the moment” and try out some of his risky ideas in an effort to save women and children — a place that has far less to lose than the United States of America.
The people of Kenya could use a guy like Barack Obama. With his family and political ties to Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, he should fit right in. And if he goes, he can take Texas CPS with him. Because they need CPS far more in Kenya than they do in the United States. And before any Obama supporter starts to shout “lies,” show us the money. Point out a single material misrepresentation in any of the linked posts — and show us where Obama has denied it — and I’ll buy you a drink the next time I’m in town.

Could John Edwards be indicted for bigamy under Texas law?
The National Enquirer has been hammering away at John Edwards (pic right, courtesy of National Enquirer), accusing him of keeping a “mistress” on the side, arranging hush money to keep her quite, and setting up an elaborate cover-up in which an Edwards campaign worker holds himself out as the father of Edwards’ love child.
The story raises a host of questions, some of which may send readers running for the exits. Oh, well. [Read more →]

Gary Naler: Escape from Flora Jessop
Gary Naler has written a fascinating, in-depth account of the relationship between two former members of the FLDS Church, Val and Laureen Jessop and their long conflict with Flora Jessop. Gary’s article, Escape From Flora Jessop: The Story of Val and Laurene Jessop, helps counterbalance some of the sensationalism circulating since the Texas indictments.

Trio of Texas helicopters buzz YFZ ranch, terrorizing kids
Bill reports that Saturday afternoon, around 2 pm, a trio of Apache helicopters gratuitously buzzed and hovered over the YFZ Ranch, in Eldorado, Texas, scattering screaming children. Why would the government do something like this? Maybe they’re growing increasingly desperate in their war against the FLDS. Perhaps they’re creating the impression of a “search” for the five men indicted in San Angelo on Tuesday.
Whatever the reason for the latest Texas incursion onto private property, a recent ABCNews video suggests an alternative use for military aircraft. Texas: Leave those kids alone!

Report on Harry Reid’s anti-FLDS Senate hearing
Missing from today’s Senate Judiciary Hearing, “Crimes Associated with Polygamy,” was the one thing that would have made it credible and useful: balance. No one at the hearing spoke up for the accused. And not a single Senator attempted to cross-examine any witness. The disregard for fairness was shocking.
Our constitutional system of due process requires that governing agencies — from the Congress to the County Commission to County courts — allow all parties to a regulatory process the opportunity to be heard. Harry Reid, like Judge Barbara Walther in San Angelo, saw to it today in Washington that only one side of this FLDS controversy had that opportunity.
Refusing to allow willing FLDS witnesses to speak was a spiteful, dishonest trick by Harry Reid. The result is that the country has been denied a fair examination of the questions before the Senate Judiciary Committee. [Read more →]

Harry Reid calls for federal task force on Islamic honor killings
Well, no he hasn’t. But if Senator Reid were really more interested in “protecting women and children” than in cheap political grandstanding, Islamic honor killings would be the focus of today’s Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on “crimes associated with polygamy.” Instead, Reid has chosen to commemorate the anniversary of Brigham Young’s arrival in Salt Lake Valley by bashing FLDS polygamists and invoking the power of the state to drive them out of existence.
The New York Post reported yesterday a United Nations estimate that 5,000 Muslim young women are murdered by their family members each year in religiously-inspired “honor killings.” One of these heinous crimes occurred in Atlanta, a mere 18 days ago. Authorities allege that Muslim “father” Chaudhry Rashid (pic above, right, with Harry Reid) murdered his 25-year-old daughter because she wanted out of an arranged marriage. Several similar crimes are believed to have occurred recently in other U.S. communities. [Read more →]
