New Cuban missile crisis brewing: Medvedev’s October surprise?
Cuba — as we outlined in La Manzana de Havana — always plays an outsized role in U.S. presidential politics. What better time than now, as November looms, for Russia to once again deploy nuclear bombers to Cuba? The Russians just love these kinds of games. What with the Russian and U.S. economies respectively booming and busting (and U.S. missiles deploying to the Czech Republic) . . . they’re back!
Breitbart reports.

Reduce CO2 emissions: Muzzle Al Gore
Al Gore — great, white compulsive CO2 opportunist — can’t stop bloviating on global warming. If we could just stick Gore’s own carbon footprint in his super-sized mouth, we might save an endangered iceberg or two. National Post reports: [Read more →]

John McCain shines on Late Night with Conan O’Brien
For voters sitting on the fence, John McCain’s appearance last Friday on Conan O’Brien is a worth a look. Click here (or the pic below) to access the video, wait through the ad for whatever, then move the timer-slide thingy (yeah, I’m hi-tech!) to the 15:00 point and enjoy. McCain comes across as funny, down-to-earth and worthy of the nation’s trust.
Never thought I’d say this, by the way, having expressed as recently as last fall the inclination to vote for . . . gasp . . . Barack Obama.

Harry Reid’s FLDS deceit: Let’s have a real hearing on how Texas has dissed the Constitution!
Freedom and Liberty Defenders Society Petition
On July 24, 2008 the United States Senate is holding a hearing in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding the FLDS Church and the polygamist lifestyle. In order for this hearing to be fair, we, as petitioners, feel that it is absolutely essential that members of the FLDS Church and those favorable to their cause be invited to testify to give a fair balance of the facts before that committee. APS backtracks on global warming: No mo’ Anthropo?
The 50,000-strong American Physical Society this week re-opened, then not-so-smoothly tried to shut down, debate over whether evidence for anthropogenic global warming — “Thropo Glo Wo” to conserve syllables — really is “incontrovertible” as the APS has previously claimed.
In the June 2008 edition of APS’ newsletter Physics & Society, the Editor wrote:
There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very likely to be primarily responsible for the global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution.”
The newsletter is posted on the APS website, but the APS quickly tried to hide this all-to-obvious family disagreement, posting the note (above) on its homepage. Funny that the APS would raise the “non-peer-reviewed” status of its own newsletter to refute the easily- and widely-verified assertion that real scientists (as opposed to Al Gore) disagree over how much “thropo” there is in “glo wo.” We’re glad to see this scientific iceberg begin to melt. Pants on Fire: Why Harry Reid is a MINO
Yesterday, I called Harry Reid the nation’s most prominent MINO (Mormon in Name Only). I did so for a reason. While Harry Reid seems to think that polygamy is the LDS Church’s worst PR nightmare, the worst nightmare is Harry Reid.
In my view, it would be a big disservice to the Mormon Church if the public at large began to see Harry Reid as representative of what it means to be a Mormon. Run-of-the-mill Mormons don’t lie, spew negativity, demoralize troops fighting for their country or self-obsess like Harry Reid.
Finally — again in my view — real Mormons believe, unlike Harry Reid, that the federal government has no responsibility to “protect women and children” in preference to any other group of American citizens. Real Mormons believe that the family — not government — is the fundamental societal unit and that strong nations start with strong families, not the other way around. [Read more →]

Anti-FLDS Senate Hearing: What’s Harry Reid really up to?
It’s official. At 10 a.m. one week from today, the blow-hards of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee will entertain testimony from a roster of notorious anti-FLDS charlatans, including the right august Senator Harry Reid, himself the U.S. Senate Majority Leader and the nation’s most prominent MINO — Mormon in name only.
What is Harry Reid up to? What does he get in exchange for not only showboating and showcasing polygamy but getting down and dirty as a witness? I think Reid has at least three motives for attacking the FLDS: [Read more →]

Looney Tunes: Orrin Hatch croons for Ted Kennedy
Utahns really need to find a more rational senior Senator. With Teddy Kennedy teetering on the verge of oblivion, Orrin Hatch is getting all blubbery, writing a ballad of all things to “honor” the man who murdered Mary Jo at Chappaquiddick. Boston Globe reports:
The result, “Headed Home,” is a lilting ballad that even its author can’t repeat without tearing up. The lyrics, he said, refer to Kennedy’s heroic return to the Senate where Kennedy has served for almost 46 years and Hatch for 32.
Sailing home, sailing home. America, America, we’re headed home at last
“He’s a special person to me. I want to honor him this way,” Hatch said in an interview, his eyes welling up slightly . . .
“Special person.” That’s one way to put it. Here’s another: Sack Hatch.

Natalie Malonis to be sacked (finally) as Teresa Jeffs attorney?
With Natalie Malonis (pic right) finally admitting that Teresa Jeffs is “ambivalent” about Malonis, Judge Barbara Walther has at long last agreed to consider — to the extent the Walther really “considers” anything — Jeffs’ request to sack Malonis. To get a sense of Jeffs’ “ambivalence,” have a look at the letter she wrote to Her Honor all the way back on June 18.
Meanwhile, the territorial Malonis has asked Walther to stop two other attorneys from interacting with Jeffs, including Alan Futrell, who represents Jeffs in relation to the grand jury that cranks up again in San Angelo a week from today, on July 22. [Read more →]

FLDS hysteria spreads to Washington: Harry Reid breathing heavy
Wow! The more things change, the more they stay the same. Now, the intellectual power house of the Senate, Searchlight, NV native Harry Reid, is looking for some of that FLDS saliva himself. The people of Nevada should be soooo proud to have local boy Harry dedicate U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee time to a biased discussion (Reid is capable of nothing else) of polygamy:
The Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington is poised to hold a hearing in next week on alleged crimes involving the Fundamentalist LDS Church.
Politicians, activists and ex-FLDS members are being contacted by staffers for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and asked if they would be willing to testify before the committee on July 24.
Am I the only one who finds it extraordinary that the Senate Judiciary Committee is investigating polygamy? What about investigating Texas judges who violate their own Judicial Code of Conduct and due process in a headlong rush to drive a religious minority out of Texas? What about slugging it out over some of the scores of judicial nominations now languishing in the Senate. Harry Reid fiddles while Rome burns.
